hello :3
this page is for introducing myself and my website to you, my dear website visitor. hopefully it doesn't get exhausting or irksome :/
take your time and enjoy your stay!
i am mimo/john/simone, a silly dog creature who grew up in backwoods nowhere new jersey as an out-of-place rural f*gg*t... ok nobody really calls me simone but i've loved the name for a long time so feel free. growing up most of my time was spent traveling around the east coast playing in football (soccer...) tournaments, wandering around outside like a wild animal, and playing bad videogames. i attended college in both boston and michigan, worked in new york for a bit, quit and went to language school in japan for a year afterwards, and now i live in cozy pittsburgh, pa.
i like a lot of stuff, often to the detriment of my time management. it's probably some convoluted form of copium, but if it's fun who cares right? right. the ones i pursue most include:
| music & audio production | ableton live, zoom recorder |
|---|---|
| game development | unity engine, godot, panda3d |
| language learning | 日本語 n2 |
| programming | c++, c#, python |
| live music | strat, orange amp, phaser & tremolo pedals |
| reading & writing |
|---|
| furries |
| fashion |
all of these will probably get their own individual page with an informational blurb, or maybe a blog post about why i love them and how i interact with them. for now, this list will do. sadly, maintaining all of these is borderline impossible from my experience, because, you know... doing things requires time. even so, i love them all for their own reasons, and i love them enough to keep exploring and engaging. most importantly, i just like doing and feeling things.
more recently, i have been making a lot of house and idm music, studying japanese by reading mishima or murakami novels, gathering a list of english books to read, and doing game development in small bursts between my job :3
i also am a technical staff member for an mmo called corporate clash. it's been very fun to work on, witness, and actively participate in making a live game :3
i originally scoped the site as a respository for dumping my music online with no rules. large streaming platforms don't agree with me ideologically, so even if i get 0 plays total i want to avoid them if i can. here, i could dump my music and serve it to the few interested people who want to play it. no concerns of copyright, no concerns of middlemen, no hoops to jump through. it was simple, low traffic, and mine.
but as time went on, the idea that i could actually do music streaming my way made realize that i can do whatever the hell else i wanted online as well. the only limit here was storage space and technical know-how. learning will probably be slow going but worth it.
from this realization, the why of the site expanded into something more personal and all-encompassing. this site serves as my own little piece of internet real estate; a centralized, self-owned hub to deposit anything related to my hobbies, interests, experiences, and goings-on. it also doubles as a learning experience for programming, since making a super epic cool personal site was the only way i could find any interest for webdev. can't hurt to learn deploying and maintaining a site either...
and so, barkmimo.pet was born.
